Eye of Kuruman

The Eye of Kuruman has been a critical part of the town since its beginning. This natural spring in the heart of the town gushes forth 20 million litres of crystal clear water every day, even in the dry season. The Tswana name for the fountain is Gasegonyana.
Surrounding the spring is a beautiful pool of water, surrounded by willow and palm trees. This pool is home to a variety of aquatic life, including crabs and many fish, among which you will find a rare ciclid. The pool is also home to many water lilies.

The Wonderwerk Cave

The Wonderwerk Cave is situated about 43 kilometres from the little town of Kuruman in the Northern Cape and is an archaeological wonder that delights visitors young or old. This cave is huge, extending some 139 metres into the earth. There are legends of old explorers being able to turn their wagons and full span of oxen around in the entrance of the cave.
Today, this cave is a National Heritage Site and a very valuable resource for its geological wealth. It is in the dolomite rocks of the Kuruman Hills and, thanks to the hillside erosion, the northern end of the cave has been exposed. Some of the deposits inside the cave are up to seven metres deep and tell the fascinating tale of the ancient world, even providing evidence of the plant, animal and human life that existed here millions of years ago.

The Moffat Mission Station

The Moffat Mission comprises the original homestead, the foundations for a schoolroom (dating back to 1829) and the Moffat Church, which was completed in 1838 and can seat an impressive 800 people. In addition to these main buildings, there are also a few other old buildings and remains that lend the mission a fantastic historical value and an undeniable old-world allure. These include a sundial, an old ox wagon and a bronze relief of Robert Moffat. The original press that he used for the Bibles has been preserved and is on display here too.
